Assessment

The Kodak Easyshare C875 provides excellent value for a compact digital camera. Most importantly the Kodak C875 produces very nice images with saturated colors, excellent sharpness, good exposure and below average image noise. Even ISO 400 can be used for mid-sized prints. It is also quite full-featured, except for the omission of a custom white-balance function. Luckily for this camera, its automatic white-balance performs very well and produces natural looking colors in most lighting situation. This provides an easier experience than having to use custom white-balance to obtain accurate colors. In terms of image quality problems, there is only a barely noticeable amount of vignetting and corner softness.

In terms of speed the Kodak Easyshare C875 shows a mixed performance. While shot-to-shot times are good, startup and shutdown are slow. Focusing also gets rather slow near the telephoto end of the zoom. The only other serious downside is the size of most controls, including the zoom controller, which may be uncomfortable for some. In terms of competition, the Canon Powershot A630 performs faster but produces nosier images with more vignetting and noticeable distortion, leaving them about even. Superior compact digital cameras include the 9 megapixels Fuji Finepix E900, the 7 megapixels Canon Powershot A700 which features a 6X optical zoom lens and its stabilized sibling the Canon Powershot A710 IS.
