Panasonic Launches Lumix LX7

This news is among the ones missed last week due to traveling in Iceland.

Last weak Panasonic introduced the successor their prosumer compact camera in the form of the Lumix DMC-LX7. This one follows the highly successful LX5 with an impoved lens and control layout, including a mechanical aperture ring around the lens barrel.

The new LX7 is built around a 10 MP CMOS sensor paired with a unique 24-90mm F/1.4-2.3 lens, the brightest non-interchangeable lens anywhere. It uses a slightly over-sized sensor to keep the same angle-of-view for rectangular aspect ratios: 4:3, 3:2 and 16:9.

The LX7 also records full 1080p video at 60 FPS and features a complete set of manual controls with plenty of external controls for efficient operation. There is a filter-thread of the lens, a hot-shoe and an accessory port for expansion options too.

As a prosumer model, the LX7 offers full manual controls, including manual focus, custom white-balance and spot metering. At can also shoot continuously at 11 FPS. It can produce JPEG images or RAW files as well.

Pricing and availability of the LX7 has not been announced yet.
