Fujifilm Launches 3 New Mirrorless Lenses
News
2021.09.01
Fujifilm inaugurated September with five new products, including three lenses designed for mirrorless digital cameras, adding to their series of X-mount and G-mount lenses for APS-C and Medium-Format, respectively.
First up is the entirely-new Fujifilm GF 35-70mm F/4.5-5.6 WR. This Medium-Format lens is equivalent to a 28-56mm zoom on a Full-Frame camera, spanning 42-76° viewing-angles. It is one of only four zoom lenses in existence for the GFX platform. This lens does two things to achieve an incredibly compact form: it has a variable aperture that starts from slightly dim to quite dim and it uses a collapsible design.
Fujifilm designed the new GF35-70mm F/4.5-5.6 WR to match their state-of-the-art Medium-Format cameras that can capture over 100 megapixels. These high-end cameras are all weatherproof and freezeproof down to -10C and so is this new lens. It closes down to 74mm long and weighs 390g which is quite compact and light for its huge 0.8X crop imaging circle.
The new Fujifilm GF35-70mm F/4.5-5.6 WR is scheduled to ship in late November this year for $1000 USD. The Canadian pricing has not been announced yet but the lens was launched in Canada too.
The more mainstream Fujifilm XF 23mm F/1.4R LM WR was also launched today. This ultra-bright wide-angle lens for Fujifilm X-system of APS-C mirrorless digital camera joins an extensive lineup of lenses. Considering the 1.5X crop-factor of X-mount cameras, this lens is equivalent to a 35mm lens on a Full-Frame camera. It captures a slightly wider-than-normal 64° angle-of-view.
This prime lens supersedes a lighter model with an improved optical design and completely weatherproof body that can handle temperatures down to -10C. The new model is necessarily larger and heavier yet remains fairly reasonable at 78mm in length with a weight of 375g.
The new Fujifilm Fujinon XF23mm F/1.4R LM WR is scheduled to ship in November of $900 USD or $1125 CAD.
Lastly for lenses, Fujifilm introduced a slightly longer XF33mm F/1.4R LM WR of a similar design. This second ultra-bright prime lens corresponds to a 50mm lens that is the most popular single focal-length for Full-Frame. It captures a 46° angle-of-view suitable for portraits and close-ups.
Like its 23mm sibling, the XF 33mm F/1.4R LM WR is weatherproof and freezeproof to -10C. It is slightly smaller and lighter due to needing smaller optics to achieve its maximum F/1.4 aperture. The lens weighs 360g which is quite reasonable for such combination of focal-length and aperture.
This lens also ships in November. It will retail for $800 USD or $1000 CAD.
