Canon Adds 3 New APS-C Digital Cameras
News
2015.02.06
Simultaneously with their release of the class-leading 50 megapixels Canon EOS 5DS and Canon EOS 5DS R, Canon launched three newly designed APS-C interchangeable-lens cameras.
The most-changed model is the Canon EOS M3 mirrorless which will be available in Europe and Asia only for the moment. The M3 is a dramatic advancement for the EF-M mount as the first such advanced model. While the original M1 was not much more usable than a compact, the new M3 offers dual control-dials and an optional 0.48" EVF with 2.4 megapixels.
Canon previously tried the North American market for mirrorless with the EOS M which was well-priced but did not offer the feature-set required by mirrorless enthusiasts. The new M3, on the other hand, looks just right, so we hope that Canon gives it a chance here sooner rather than later.
The Canon EOS Rebel T6s is entirely new in the Rebel-range. Its design bridges the traditional low-end Rebel design and the mid-range EOS double-digit mold. The Rebel T6s offers dual control-dials yet keeps a cropped 95% viewfinder. Surely, this seems backwards as a 100% coverage OVF provides a much grater improvement in usability than dual control-dials. Consider that a 100% viewfinder benefits all images while dual control-dials only speed up the setting of exposure in manual-mode. The T6s also adds a top status LCD, which is nice to have.
The Canon EOS Rebel T6s is scheduled to arrive this April for $850 USD. B&H Photo are already accepting pre-orders with free shipping to the USA and Canada. Adorama is taking pre-orders too.
The Canon EOS Rebel T6i is a typical Rebel which shares its image sensor and processor with the T6s. Both these cameras use a newly developed 24 megapixels APS-C (1.6X Crop) CMOS sensor with Hybrid AF III which includes 49 built-in Phase-Detect AF points. Its standard ISO 100 to 12800 sensitivity range is expandable to 25600. Combined with a Digic 6 processor, this 24 megapixels sensor can shoot at 5 FPS with a whopping 940 JPEG images or 8 RAW files.
At a suggested $749 USD price, the Rebel T6i can be pre-ordered at B&H Photo and is expected to ship this April. Adorama is already accepting pre-orders too.
