Assessment
Clearly, Nikon has cut too many corners with the Coolpix L2. The lens, which delivers good sharpness, is betrayed by strong barrel distortion at wide-angle and a very narrow aperture (F5.3) at telephoto. Combined with a maximum ISO of 200, even this camera's typical 3X optical zoom has limited usability. This camera also lacks control over ISO sensitivity. This is a serious limitation which means the camera chooses the quality of images rather than the user. Given its weak flash, the camera frequently boosts ISO in low-light and therefore produces rather noisy images in such conditions. As you can see, the Nikon Coolpix L2 finds itself with very little features and very little to like. There are absolutely no reason to get this camera considering the vastly superior models available. All the following ultra-compact digital cameras are vastly superior: Fuji Finepix F30, Fuji Finepix F10, Canon Powershot SD550, Canon Powershot SD500 and Pentax Optio W10. The only advantage of the L2 over these is that it uses AA batteries. If that is important, check out the Casio Exilim EX-Z120 which features full-manual controls and great battery life using 2 AA batteries.
