Images below are all unmodified 100% crops from their respective cameras. ISO was set on each the camera but white-balance and exposure was on automatic. For the ISO 2000 shot, the F40's natural light mode was used and, since it was dark enough, it selected ISO 2000.

From the crops bellow it is clear that these cameras elected to deal with noise rather differently. While the Fuji Finepix F10 shows less image noise than the Fuji Finepix F40fd, its images appear comparatively soft but with a very smooth. In small prints, differences won't be apparent. Aside the noise-detail trade-off, these pictures are very similar in terms of color, exposure and white-balance.

What is good is that the increase in resolution from 6 to 8 megapixelshad not degraded image quality compared to the F10 which is still one of the best ultra-compact cameras. However, note that the F30 has about a one stop advantage over the F10 in terms of noise. This can be seen in the Fuji Finepix F30's day crops.
