The Canon Powershot SD1100 IS represents its series with good all-around performance without standing out in any way. It produces nice images with consumer-oriented color, bright print-ready exposure and is quite fast and responsive. There is nothing seriously wrong with this camera, although its images exhibit more noise than usual.

 

Among its siblings you can find more interesting models such as the SD870 IS which features a wide-angle lens. Among its competitors, the SD1100 shows outstanding ease of use and great speed of operation. However, image quality of this digital camera is lagging that of other recent ultra-compacts. In particular, the Fuji Finepix F100fd which we recently reviewed shows superior image quality and features a very sharp 5X wide-angle optical zoom lens.

 

Other cameras with superior image quality include the Fuji Finepix F50 and the Fuji Finepix F40. All these Fuji cameras are quite responsive and feature powerful flashes. The F50 also provides semi-automatic modes for more creative control than most ultra-compacts.
