The Canon Powershot A570 IS proved to be an excellent compact digital camera. With a well-rounded feature set including full-manual controls, image stabilization and unlimited continuous shooting, plus use of readily available AA batteries and chear SD (and SDHC) memory, the A570 is one of the best digital camera values currently available.

 

In terms of quality, there is very little to complain about. The Canon A570 produces well-exposed images with low purple fringing, good image colors and good sharpness. Noise levels are also quite low until ISO 200, although they rise rapidly after that. This camera is well built and easy to use as well.

 

The two main alternatives that should be considered against the Canon Powershot A570 IS are the Fuji Finepix E900 and the Canon Powershot A710 IS. Both of these cameras have a nearly identical feature set to the A570. The Fuji E900 particularly offers superior image quality with lower image noise, a wider-angle lens (32-128mm instead of the A570's 35-140mm) but no image stabilization. The Canon A710 IS simply offers a longer 6X optical zoom. Of course, both these cameras cost more than the Canon Powershot A570 IS.
