Assessment
Note, this is the same conclusion as the Sony W50, since their only difference is the LCD size which is smaller and lower in resolution with the W30. The Sony Cybershot W30 does one thing very well: keep noise levels lower than average until around ISO 200. Unfortunately, that is not enough to make this camera stand out. Outdoors this digital camera produces nice looking images with good sharpness away from the corners and accurate colors. Indoors, the W30 leave a noticeable color cast in both auto and preset white-balance. Since there is no custom white-balance either, there is no way to get accurate colors under artificial lighting with this camera. The camera is generally fast except when focusing while zoomed in or in low-light. With so many ultra-compact cameras available, there is really no reason to choose the W30. Clearly superior models include the Fuji Finepix F10, the Canon Powershot SD550, the Canon Powershot SD500 and the Sony Cybershot P200.
