This is an extremely poor camera which suffers too much in terms of image quality to be worth it. Not only does the lens suffer from vignetting, distortion and softness, but it is diffilcult to frame pictures outdoor due to the highly reflective LCD and the lack of an optical viewfinder. The zoom control is apparently also difficult to use and cannot control the lens precisely. Also the Coolpix S5 is one of the only cameras which does not allow disabling the digital zoom. This is an inexusable oversight which can result in accidental use of this image-quality reducing feature. Add to that the short battery-life and poor flash-range and the result is an ultra-compact digital camera with no redeeming quality.

 

The bottom line is to look elsewhere. There are many cameras which are superior in every way to the Coolpix S5 like the Fuji Finepix F10, the Canon Powershot SD550 and the Sony Cybershot P200.
