With the Coolpix S3, Nikon has managed to improve on the rather poor Coolpix S1. Still, this is one camera that seems too slim for its own good. The folded optics lens allows for an ultra-slim body but at the expense of serious chromatic aberrations and optical distortion. Additionally, this small camera features a weak flash and under-powered battery. Other than the negatives mentioned already, the Coolpix S3 is well built and features a sharp lens and an average quality sensor.

 

For a better but almost equally-slim digital cameras, see the Canon Powershot SD450, the Casio Exilim EX-Z750 or the Casio Exilim EX-Z55. If you can spare 0.2" of pocket space, consider instead the clearly superior Fuji Finepix F10 or the excellent Canon Powershot SD550.
