This compact camera has a lot of competition, even with its its 7 megapixel resolution and high-resolution movie mode. Overall, the image and build quality of the Nikon Coolpix 7900 is decent for its size, with some image softness and noise at low -ISO (common for its class). The Canon Powershot S70 is probably its closest competitor. It offers more advanced features such as full manual controls, but other problems such as purple fringing, color cast with automatic white balance and occasional focus missed. Lower resolution competitors include the Canon Powershot A95 and the Fuji Finepix E550 which both offer-full manual control and better image quality.
