Day ISO Cropped Images

Images below are all unmodified 100% crops from their respective cameras. A specific ISO was set for each picture on-camera but exposure and white-balance were fully automatic. Here the 10 megapixels HP Photosmart is compared to the 6 megapixels Fuji Finepix F30. Both models are top-of-the-line ultra-compact digital cameras from HP and Fuji, respectively. While the Fuji does not have full manual controls, only semi-automatic modes, it does have a much larger ISO range and is currently the image quality champion among ultra-compact cameras.

Right off at ISO 100, the HP is shockingly noisier than the Fuji Finepix F30. At ISO 400, the R967 is quite noisy and shows increased softness, probably due to noise-reduction. Besides the HP, the F30 remains silky smooth up to ISO 400. Even the F30's ISO 800 shows less noise than the HP Photosmart R967. Noise is not the only difference here. The most visible difference is actually exposure. The HP consistently produces a slightly darker image. Note that we cannot absolutely compare exposre-values because we have no data on either camera's ISO accuracy. The HP is also slightly softer but its resolution advantage makes up for that compared to the F30. In this series of images. both cameras show excellent white-balance.	ISO 800- 1/1300s F8
