Assessment

The Canon Powershot SD430 is simply a slightly larger Canon Powershot SD400 with WiFi, so all our comments on the SD400 apply here. This camera compares well in the ultra-compact category, although there are many better and cheaper models available, WiFi not-included. The SD430's biggest weaknesses are corner softness and poor battery life. The Fuji Finepix F10, the Canon Powershot SD500 and the Canon Powershot SD550 are all better non-WiFi ultra-compact cameras.

The WiFi feature is well implemented and fairly easy to setup. This camera uses the slower 802.11b protocal (like the Kodak Easyshare One). WiFi printing is made possible using an included wireless adapter which must be connected to a Pict-Bridge compliant-printer. Compared to other WiFi capable cameras, the SD430 should be the top-contended since it performs photographicaly just as well as its non-WiFi sibling, the SD400. Note that using the WiFi feature has a negative effect on battery life, which is already poor on this camera.
