Assessment

Here's a 3 megapixel ultra-compact camera that is unfortunately overpriced. Except for above average corner softness and chromatic aberrations, the photo quality is reasonably good given the SD200's size. For regular 4x6 prints, these defects may not be noticeable. Otherwise the camera is responsive and is easy to use. The Canon SD300 (its 4 megapixel sibling), does not provide the same photo-quality but the SD400, its 5 megapixel sibling, does.

Similarly priced ultra-compact cameras offering better value include the Konica-Minolta X50 and the Pentax Optio S55. Both of these cameras have higher-resolution sensors (5 Megapixels) and better image quality, though the SD200 has a better movie mode and a better continuous shooting modes.
