Assessment
The Canon Digital Rebel is the benchmark entry-level digital
SLR. It is among the cheapest DSLR available, and its even
cheaper than many prosumer digital cameras. For a relatively
low-price you still obtain the main advantages of DSLRs: low-noise
at high-ISO and interchangeable lenses.
The Canon Digital Rebel features every essential manual control except metering. The
main district ion between this camera and higher-end camera is its slow continuous
drive. Unless the main target is sports or fashion photography, the Digital
Rebel is an excellent choice. Anyone with a set of Canon lenses should
seriously consider the Digital Rebel as an option. For sports photography,
we recommend the more expensive Canon 20D instead. For low-light photography,
we suggest the, also more expensive, Konica-Minolta
Maxxum 7D instead due to
its higher senstitivity, lower noise and built-in Anti-Shake.
Note that this camera was recently demoted from its previous
excellent rating. This is still a great camera but numerous
newer models have now exceeded the performance and capabilty
of the Canon Digital Rebel.
