Here the Canon Powershot A700 is compared to the Fuji Finepix E550 which are both compact cameras of the same class. The E550 is somewhat older than the A700 and sports a wider 4X optical zoom (32-128mm equivalent), instead of the A700's 6X optical zoom (35-210mm equivalent). Images below are all unmodified 100% crops from their respective cameras. ISO was set on the camera but exposure and white-balance were on automatic. The crops below illustrate that the Fuji E550 produces sharper images with lower noise, even at ISO 400 and despite being a previous generation camera. Today the E550 has been superceeded by the excellent 9 megapixel Fuji Finepix E900. At ISO 100, the Canon A700 still produces good images that are very close to the E550 in terms of quality. Keep in mind that the A700 also has better low-light capability than the E550 which limits its shutter-speed to 3s at most.
