Panasonic Lumix DMC-GH4 Summary
Panasonic Lumix DMC-GH4 Assessment
The Panasonic Lumix DMC-GH4 takes over the GH3 as Panasonic's flagship mirrorless camera. Its large body is weather-sealed and features triple control-dials among a plethora of buttons to make it efficient in use. The built-in EVF has been upgraded to 2.4 MP with 1.34X magnification and the LCD to just over 1 megapixels to improve viewing.
Inside there is a new 16 MP LiveMOS sensor which delivers very low image noise and relatively good DR. Colors and rendition of details can be nice with some tweaking. WB is generally good but perfect. The ultra-fast autofocus speed and a nearly instant shutter-lag are quite impressive.
This mirrorless offers an unprecendented video feature set. The headline-grabbing specification is 4K Ultra-HD video capture at 30 or 24 FPS which it does at 100 Mbps. Full 1080p HD is taken to the next level with extremely smooth 60 FPS captured at 200 Mbps using All-Intra MPEG-4 encoding. There is clean output over HDMI plus external stereo input and output.
Luckily, the GH4 turns in an impeccable performance when it comes to video. Starting and stopping filming is instantaneous and a video mode it possible to set framing perfectly before beginning.
This mirrorless camera truly brings unprecendented versatility with 4K video. Its professional feature-set is bound to appeal to videographers wanting to produce Ultra-HD video without much bulk.
