The Olympus XZ-10 packs an extraordinary amount of functionality in a small camera that is barely larger than an ultra-compact. It even manages to squeeze in an ultra-bright F/1.8-2.7 lens with 5X optical zoom and image stabilization.
As an advanced compact, the Stylus XZ-10 offers full manual-controls and dual control-dials to keep them accessible. A traditional mode-dial and customizable Function button add to its efficiency.
All this capability in such a compact size leaves this camera with a typical-sized 1/2.3" CMOS sensor. At 12 megapixels, it performs reasonably well. Focus speed is about average but highly reliable. Overall speed is average.
Outside of the impossibility to preview video framing correctly, there is very little to complain about the XZ-10. At the same time, it excels at little else than being the smallest camera with such a bright lens. It small size and price are therefore ideal reasons to choose the XZ-10 over a premium camera such as its larger sibling, the Olympus Stylus XZ-2
