Olympus Stylus 1 Summary
Olympus Stylus 1 Assessment
The Olympus Stylus 1 brings an impressive number of controls and an excellent large 1.15X magnification EVF with Eye-Start in the body of a compact camera. A well-designed control-ring switches between steps and continuous rotation for optimal parameter setting and smooth manual focus.
The 12 megapixels 1/1.7" CMOS sensor in the Stylus 1 produces low-noise and nicely processed images. Exposure, color and white-balance are all good with only a slight general softness to complain about. It is the lens though which is most impressive. It offers a versatile 10.7X optical zoom while having a constant F/2.8 aperture.
This compact digital camera is fast and its autofocus system quite reliable. It manages to accurately lock focus in very low-light compared to its peers. It also shows no lag to record video, despite lacking a real Video mode. Builtin WiFi and a touchscreen round off its modern feature set.
The Olympus Stylus 1 carves itself a unique position among premium digital cameras. Its combination of quality, speed and features are very impressive and certainly worth their place among its peers.
