Nikon D800 Comparative Crops

The Nikon D800 is compared again to the Nikon D600
Nikon D600, this time after resizing down to 24 MP. This makes the resolution match and is representive of comparing a fixed-sized print between both cameras. Notice that each camera metered differently and the white-balance of the D800 is more realistic. While both cameras took turns with the 24-70mm F/2.8 lens, the D800 is more sensitive to softness due to its higher resolution.

These crops help determine which ISO settings can be acceptably used on these cameras. As image noise increases, most cameras compensate with noise reduction which introduces softness. The point at which a print become unacceptably noisy is a matter of personal taste.
