The Fuji Finepix X10 is a premium compact which distinguishes itself by a unique mechanical lens with a bright F/2-2.8 maximum aperture. It offers complete manual controls and an efficient interface, including dual control-dials and plenty of external controls.
Its 4X wide-angle optical zoom range is usable for a variety of photographic subjects. Should a 28-112mm focal-range cover your needs, the X10 is an excellent candidate to consider.
The performance of the X10 in terms of image quality is second only to the twice as expensive fixed-focal-length Fuji Finepix X100. However, the X10 leads in terms of performance with its speedy autofocus and quick shot-to-shot speed.
While the number of premium compacts has grown over the last two years, there are still only a handful of such models, squeezed in price between traditional compact cameras and Digital SLRs and facing the toughest challenge from SLDs with larger sensors and interchangeable lenses. Still, when a single lens is sufficient, it is difficult to beat the perfect integration of a premium camera, particularly when it includes a mechanical zoom lens and efficient interface.
