Fujifilm Finepix X10 Indoor Crops

Here, the Fuji Finepix X10 is compared to the Nikon Coolpix P7100
Nikon Coolpix P7100
, the highest quality small-sensor compact to date. While the X10 has a slightly larfer sensor, the P7100 has slightly lower resolution to compensate, making them quite evenly matched. All images below are 100% unmodified crops from their respective cameras. Both cameras were set to Aperture Priority mode with fixed ISO. As usual, both cameras were calibrated to give the highest quality and most realistic results possible.

These crops help determine which ISO settings can be acceptably used on these cameras. As image noise increases, most cameras compensate with noise reduction which introduces softness. The point at which a print become unacceptably noisy is a matter of personal taste.

This is truly neck-and-neck between the Fuji X10 and Nikon P7100. The P7100 shows a tad more sharpness at low ISOs and milder noise-reduction. Only at ISO 3200 do we see a slight lead for the X10. The X10 does manage to keep more dynamic range thoughout the series though.
