Fujifilm GFX 50S Summary
Fuji GFX 50S Assessment
The Fujifilm GFX-50S starts a completely new Mirrorless System for Medium Format digital cameras. The heart of the GFX-50S is a 44x33mm very high-resolution 50 MP sensor with an ISO 100-12800 standard sensitivity-range, expandable to ISO 50 to 102,400. The new system comes with a new GF-mount to support lenses covering a larger-than-full-frame imaging-circle.
Image quality from the GFX-50S is nothing short of amazing. All details are extremely sharp, noise is very low and dynamic-range is class-leading. The metering system is highly reliable and requires minimal adjustment. Color rendition is superb, although Auto White-Balance, which can be easily corrected, is below average.
What it achieves in image-quality, it loses in speed due to the huge volume of data coming from its sensor. This digital camera is slower than recent mirrorless and DSLRs on most fronts. Particularly limiting is a long black-out time and slow shot-to-shot speed, although its Contrast Detect AF system is fast enough to be usable.
This is a very specialized digital camera and so we highly recommend to read both the Fujifilm GFX-50S review and the Fujinon GFX Lens Roundup. It is a new system and so only a handful of lenses are available, cornering the system in terms of suitability for different types of photography.
